Packing for a work event like a conference can be a slightly fraught event. you're on display to every single one of your work colleagues, there is inevitably some evening do which needs taking account of (how much flesh is too much flesh when it's for work?), and it's all got to fit into a suitcase that doesn't look embarrassingly indulgent when you wheel it into the hotel.
The House of Colour annual conference is on this weekend, and with it the added pressure that every single person there is going to be impeccably dressed, each interpreting their colours and style in new and unique ways. The pressure!
The first day of our conference is always slightly less formal, followed by a glamorous (not black tie) evening do, then a slightly more formal second day. I've gone for minimal packing, maximum impact. All the dresses fold up small and apart from the one silk one (which I may have to go wild and take in a suit bag, but which will be worn on the first day so no need to nurse it for too long) they are pretty crease resistant. Accessories are a great way to add impact while keeping the main garments simple, and I've really relied on that for my evening do outfit.
I know our conference quite well, and I know what is expected of me, but I would always recommend that if you don't know the exact dress code, err on the side of too smart rather than too casual. No one ever complained that someone looked too businesslike for a work conference! And pair everything with a decent lipstick - it adds huge amounts of authority, and you never know when you might find yourself chatting to the CEO over the lunchtime buffet.
